Good bye - for now!

Home About Us News Good bye - for now!
Our amazing cook Alison left us last month for another awesome adventure...but not before we threw her a fabulous farewell morning tea.

When we heard Alison was leaving, we knew we had to have a great good bye - but you can't cook your own farewell spread. Fortunately one of Rick's many jobs was as a chef so he stepped in to save the day (except for Alison's famous cheese rolls, which she had to make).

We all gathered in the staff room for Kai and conversation, and to present Alison with a farewell gift. An amazing Knife (and the compulsory silver coin to keep it lucky). Just remember not to put the knife in your carryon Alison!

It's a bit mad how we often only find out about people once they are leaving, like Alison has a Masters Degree in Clowning in Shakespeare, and she biked from Bluff to Cape Reinga in 2013.

She joined the Hospice in the middle of Covid and didn't see a patient for three months. She said "It's the nicest job I have ever had. Even on an average day it's a special Place."

Alison is off to be an heiress in London, see where her grandmother was born (Scotland) and if she can pull it off, go dog sledding in the Arctic like Joe Lycett.

She hopes to return to OCH when this adventure is over. We hope so too.
