The Central Otago Hospice Dinner Club is set to happen for the second year running thanks to the efforts of volunteer Russell Garbutt and support from Alexandra-based Pioneer Energy.

The Dinner Club will be held this year at the Packing Shed in Earnscleugh and features a three-course meal, complimentary bubbles on arrival, guest speaker Pallas Hupé Cotter and an exclusive, action-packed auction including a Ferrari Fast Dash and Go-Kart package thanks to Highlands, a trip in a Bell 47 G5 “MASH” helicopter and a rally car ride with Hayden Paddon.

The Dinner Club concept was triggered last year by local Russell Garbutt who was keen to help the Hospice ever since the service looked after his wife four years ago.

Otago Community Hospice CEO Ginny Green says the Hospice fundraising target of $2.5 million each year relies upon the goodwill of the community to ensure free specialist palliative care for anyone in the region who needs it.

“With the patient numbers in Otago growing significantly, we really need to fundraise more from the regions.

In the last six months we have employed two new community care coordinators, and are about to appoint a social worker and a spiritual coordinator for this region. So it is really wonderful that we have this Dinner Club as a key fundraising event helping us raise funds for the local Hospice team.

We couldn’t do this event without Pioneer’s generous support and Russell is the perfect ambassador for our services, knowing so well what Hospice can do for those who need palliative care.”

Pioneer Energy CEO Fraser Jonker was happy to support the Dinner Club again, after the success of its first year.

“We are a very community-focused organisation, and were happy to come on board as supporters for the Dinner Club, recognising the increasing need for these vital Hospice services in our region.

“The Packing Shed team have been very generous with the hosting of the event, and we look forward to a memorable Central Otago night out for a great cause.”

Tickets cost $125 each and can be purchased by emailing DinnerClub@pioneerenergy.co.nz or phoning 03 440 0022 or 0508 363 749.
